The
McGregor Museum in
Atlas Street, Belgravia, have on display history as well as Natural History
items. Housed in the old Sanatorium which was built by Cecil
Rhodes, this magnificent museum is not to be missed.

Next to McGregor is the
Duggan-Cronin Gallery, with an excellent display of the
photographic works on the people of Africa, as photographed by
Duggan-Cronin long ago.

One of the best art galleries
in the country, the William
Humphries Art Gallery have on display some of the finest art
in South Africa. The gallery is situated in Cullinan Street,
opposite the

Oppenheimer Gardens
where the Malay Camp used to be. An on-site memorial and
information panels about the Malay Camp can be seen in the
Gardens.

The Sol Plaatje Museum
in Angel Street is dedicated to Solomon Plaatje, writer of "Nkosi
Sikilele" and founder member of the ANC.

Kimberley played an extremely
important role during the Anglo-Boer War and is also part
of the Battlefield Route. Magersfontein Battlefield
Museum is an Anglo-Boer War museum. It is situated approximately
32 km from Kimberley. Here you can relive the Battle of
Magersfontein not only on the actual Battle Field, but also in
the visitor centre.

Kamfersdam is situated
on the northern outskirts of Kimberley and a birdwatcher's
paradise - it is a very important habitat of flamingos and
other bird species. Information panels can be seen next to the
water.

Your gateway to Wildebeest Kuil's rock art
is a
visitors' centre where displays and a 25-minute film introduce
you to the site. Then choose to go on an audio tour of the site
(you will receive a small portable audio player), and you will
enjoy fascinating commentary at each of 10 marked "stations".

On the road to Barkly West,
you will find the turn off to the Nooitgedacht glacial pavings. Here you will
be able to see the marks that shifting ice left on the rocks.
These rocks are also richly engraved with Khoi San rock art.

The Transport Museum at the
station tells the history of transport in Kimberley and is well
worth a visit.

Various Game Farms can be
visited. These privately owned farms offer game drives where you
can see various antelope at close distances. It offers the ideal
opportunity to take that special photograph you always wanted
to.
